Polka Dots, the new stripes?

When I was growing up, lets say middle school, I LOVED polka dots, I thought they were the cutest thing! However, polka dots were not the most flattering on a girl turning into a lady and just starting to get curves but doesn’t know how to dress them. So needless to say polka dots faded out of my wardrobe slowly but surely as I became more aware of this lack of flattery.

However, a decade later and a little more grown up, polka dots have made it back on the scene. I have reinstated my obsession and slowly but surely acquiring more polka dot pieces. My favorite piece that I have added to my collection is this wonderful button up from Loft. It is just standard black and white but it goes with pretty much everything.

Although I thought I may be alone at first in my re-aquired love for polka dots, I have gotten more compliments on this shirt that many more in my collection.  So thank goodness for this renewed love of the polka dot, and thank goodness that years later I supposedly can pull it off.

So next time! Mix it up, and swap those stripes for the stripes for some spots!

From January through July, my oh my!

Well hello there friends and readers, if I have any of those left at this point. 😉 Hope you all have been achieving great things in your  lives and living exactly as you envision yourself doing so! It has been a while and I do apologize for my long absence; there has been A LOT of things going on…

Let’s take a flashback to my last post in January, “New year, New Everything!” there were three goals in there that I should have been keeping up with as the year of 2013 has progressed.

Goal 1: Get a full time job.

Goal 2: Keep Running.

Goal 3: Keep Blogging.

Well folks, if you count this blog as keep blogging you can count me in for 3/3! When I said there had been a lot of things going on I meant it!

As January progressed, I continued to dredge on in post grad life, searching for a full time job. So many applications, and resumes, and cover letters, I could have gone mad! Luckily, thanks to my roommate and pledge sister, I applied at, what has turned out to be an amazing company!  Wedding and event planning has always been one of my passions and will continue to be, it will always be something I want to pursue later in life; however as someone in need of a full time job and some great work experience you apply to things that you would do well in and hopefully enjoy as well. Luckily I discovered something exactly like that, I got a job at a custom t-shirt company called CustomInk! I started there in February and have been loving it ever since! Essentially I sell t-shirts for a living! It is a great, young, fun company with wonderful, unique individuals who make coming to work enjoyable every single day. And I mean it doesn’t get much more fun than t-shirts!

Since the big step into the real world, I have also moved out on my own as well and moved into my own apartment, I have continue to run, and explore the world of gluten free living.  Although the adult world can be stressful, and at times, monotonous, exciting at others but it is rewarding non the less.

So a lot has been happening, work has been taking up a lot of my time. I am still spending my weekends exploring new places to run and hike. I will have to update everyone soon about my tree top adventures and how I am getting closer and closer to a half marathon all the time. Every mile worth it.

So to continue on with my goals I need to get back into this blog! More to come that is for sure! I have been brainstorming some ideas of some great gluten free goodies to share, there are many adventures, festivals, wine tastings, and races to come. As well as a little bit of this and that in between.

Happy to be back, happy to be blogging. Keep your eye out for more to come from this… GlutenFreePrep. ❤ xox

{Instagram photo challenge}

So Happy Halloween everyone! 🙂 Unfortunately I have to work tonight, maybe celebrating after, who knows? Anyways! This lovely month of October I did the Instagram photo a day challenge, which was as follows:

Day 1: You, now. Here is the best and most recent picture (although not so much at this point ;)) of me and my pledge sister.

Day 2: Picture with you Father, I know I have some with just my Dad but why leave Mama out?

Day 3: Far Away. Visit to Seattle in 10th grade, one of the best trips of my life.

Day 4: In my mailbox.

Day 5: Bright! It’s always a bright day with my pledge sisters on the way the La Parota! ❤

Day 6: Everyday. My planner and my phone are two things I use everyday for everything.

Day 7: Natural, delicious apple crisps, Kind of natural. 😉

Day 8: At night. Typical apple cider and Pinterest.

Day 9: Something you do most weekends. Work as a day of event and wedding go to girl! It is wonderful and I absolutely love it!

Day 10: Black and white, me and my friend Paige went and got Blueri froyo!

Day 11: Hero. Shannon Miller was my hero growing up, I idolized her as a gymnast and it was incredible to  meet her and to have her coach me at IGC. She is still an inspiration today successfully battling cancer.

Day 12: Together. Even if I feel completely alone I know I have you 5! My life. My heart. My home. LO6 lubuil.

Day 13: Table. Cute table settings at the last wedding of the season!

Day 14: Favorite. Dubbie ( 😦 ), Cosmo, Queso, and Alice! (and extra Kiki).

Day 15: First thing you see. It was Dublin my baby kitty but she got snatched up by a terrible woods creature who thought she would be a nice meal 😥 so very sad. I miss her.

Day 16: Strange… I couldn’t find anything else. I don’t think this needs an explanation for strange…

Day 17: In my fridge, lotsa stuff, and lotsa stuff I can’t eat.

Day 18: (late again.) Prices! Prices at King Street Coffee with GF mini loaves!

Day 19: Underneath. Underneath this ugly warehouse roof is the largest collection of vintage carriages in the US!

Day 20: Man-made. Keys are man-made, keys to all the cool things at my work.

Day 21: Sometimes. Sometimes I blog 😉 #gfp

Day 22: Up. Up the movie, is so cute!

Day 23: Before Bedtime: Netflix

Day 24: 3 Things. Even though today at the Battlefield was pretty awful… here were 3 pretty parts.

Day 25: Frame. cute frame used as an armoire tray!

Day 26: Near. It’s nearly Halloween!

Day 27: Love/ Hate. I hate a love hate relationship with running.

Day 28: A good thing. OMG THESE ARE DELICIOUS! I have been thinking about buying these as long as I have been gluten free but could never bring myself to pay $7 for donuts! Thanks Mom and Dad 😉

Day 29: Errand…No errands today! Stuck inside thanks to Hurricane Sandy. Carved a kitty pumpkin instead! 🙂

Day 30: You, Then. Dad and I carving pumpkins just like we did last night!

Day 31: HALLOWEEN! If I were going out tonight I would want to be Effie Trinket from the Hunger Games!

May the Odds be ever in your favor!

Thats all for now! That was such a fun challenge 🙂 🙂 I Liked it a lot too because I was able to give some variations to the pictures based on the theme of the day!

{Party like Gatsby}

Re-reading The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald was on my list of post grad to-do’s, I had originally read it in 10th grade English and knew it was time for a refresher.  The preview of the re-done movie version of the book coming out in December is what peaked my interest originally, and I can’t wait to see it! I didn’t know there were older movie versions (and there are a few) until my ever helpful Mom informed me, and luckily Netflix came through and gave me something to watch on a rainy, rare, day off. 🙂 I watched the 1974 version with Robert Redford and Mia Farrow, it was FABULOUS!

I have always been a sucker for old movies, the charm and poise of how people (at least in movies) carried themselves is always an inspiration, considering so few people seem to have manners anymore. Not saying that I am any example of supreme elegance and class but I like to believe I know how to behave in situations that aren’t a frat party.  Again rambling off topic, I am still working on the re-reading of The Great Gatsby, I have been swamped with work and unplanned happenings this past week.  So I full re-count, and probably raving review of how Gatsby takes you back and time and makes you wish you lived in a different era, to come. To tide you over and get excited you about the upcoming release of the newest movie… 🙂

I can’t wait for this movie! And an update on my love of Fitzgerald’s ever famous The Great Gatsby

Summer reading, optional not assigned.

Since the summer of 2004 I have had a summer assignment looming over my head for an AP class, or a summer course from hell each summer in college. As a recent graduate I have taken advantage of my lack of assignments and complied an entire list of books to read. Summer reading at it’s finest. Don’t get me wrong, I have read books for pleasure over the past 8 years but school work always took precedent.

So thus far this summer I have read Looking for Alaska by John Green, Safe Haven by Nicholas Sparks, Baby Proof and Love the One You are With by Emily Giffin. I’m working on another Emily Giffin novel, Heart of the Matter. Then I will be onto the Chelsea Handler books which are always a laugh.

First book of the summer, I read Looking for Alaska after one of my best friends told me I NEEDED to read it, that it was so great; she was right. Basically its about a boy who leaves a home where he has no friends for a boarding school in Alabama where he has the best and worst times of his life; all while searching for the ‘great perhaps.’  There he meets Alaska. This isn’t your typical high school love story or tragedy but it was a page turner. And I would definitely recommend it.

Next, I read Baby Proof by Emily Giffin, the third of her books that I read; following Something Borrowed and Something Blue, which I LOVED! So I figured I should continue on a good path. Baby Proof was really cute, although a little past my age in terms of what the people are going through having children, but probably not far enough for my liking. Friends around me seem to be getting pregnant and married left and right. Baby Proof is a tale of two meant to be, almost completely ruined because of the stress of having, or not having, a baby. Again cute, and one I recommend along with the rest of Giffin’s novels.

Followed by, Safe Haven by Nicholas Sparks (keep in mind I am currently working as a pool manager, I have plenty of time to read). Safe Haven was a thrilling novel about a Katie, who was actually Erin, who ran away from a bad marriage to North Carolina and falls unexpectedly in love with a man who makes her completely happy. It is really good and also very dramatic, I couldn’t put it down during the last few chapters. And if you love Sparks as I do, you will probably love this summer read as well.

Next I delved into another Griffin novel, Love the One You Are With which was exceptional. This twisted love story kind of put a lot of things into perspective for me, and it had very interesting timing as I was finishing it right around the time in which my boyfriend and I broke up. In this novel main character Ellen has to figure out a complicated love triangle/ what she really wants and needs in life and in her relationship. It is an easy read and is one that gives the reader something to think about deeper than the plot line.

And currently I am working on Giffin’s Heart of the Matter, once I am finished I will updated the masses… if there are any.

Keep reading for some fun ideas to keeping life a little more positive and some yummy gluten free ideas in future posts!

Back on the Blogging Bandwagon!

I always do this, it is a good thing I do not have any followers, that I know of, and none of which are avid in any sense of the word lol. ANYWAYS. I love the idea of blogging, and thinking of post ideas it just never happens. This needs to change.

May, June, and July have come and gone and August is now upon us.  Summer has been full of job searching, lifeguard and pool drama, and all sorts of different food and exercise endeavors.  I have began swimming at least twice a week, if not three times a week and have reached my goal of swimming a mile! woop whoop! although that is nothing to someone like Michael Phelps, whom we have seen during these summer Olympics in London, is was quite the accomplishment for me.

I am continuing to swim but I need to add more variation to the exercise I am doing. I have began to run, but I have never been a good runner so we will see how long this last.  But I have also been doing Yoga at least 3 or 4 times a week and I have just been loving that.

#EOTD (exercise of the day)

  • Ran/power walked 1.2 miles
  • 40 mins of Yoga
  • Swam 1,000M (20 laps)

#FOTD (Food of the day)

  • Coffee with milk and sugar
  • Apple Cinnamon GF Chex
  • GF PB & Raspberry jelly sandwich
  • Salad with olive oil&balsamic vingerette dressing, crasins, and mandarin oranges
  • a few french fries 😉
  • Asparagus/ Tomato Stir fry (see picture)
  •  Raspberries with a scoop of vanilla and honey drizzle

This recipe is delicious, quick, fresh, and gluten free*! (watch your soy sauce!)*

As far as my love for everything prep that will just have to wait until after my shopping extravaganza tomorrow!

It’s a perfect day for wellies!

April showers, bring May flowers

It is a rainy start to my almost-post grad life.  Thunder has been rolling though all morning, I am glad that I didn’t go to Foxfield’s but I still wish I was there to see everyone’s outfits! However on this rainy Saturday it is time for an almost last rendezvous with my 5 best friends and pledge sisters in Zeta, Zeta Fiesta Senior Week Kick-off!  If only I have super cute Hunters to sport across town in the rain… #wishlist.

I have always wanted the taller ankle Bean Boots however as a poor college student I had to settle for second best and got the Target version for $30 instead.

Cute and I always get compliments on them but not as cute as these….

and these are the one’s I wish for the most! The cutest of them all…

And I am done wishing for now! Off to a mexican fiesta with my pledge sisters!
